ROETHISBERGER RETURNS TO PRACTICE

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been given the OK to return to team practices next week,  rather he will get less of a suspension then the 6 games he has already been suspended for is undetermined.

The 28-year-old Roethlisberger, was suspended without pay for 6 regular season games after being accused of sexually assaulting a woman.  Charges have not been filed.

Roethlisberger was told to undergo a behavioral evaluation as part of his suspension and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell had said he would consider whether to reduce the suspension to four games.

Big Ben’s 6 year career with the Pittsburgh Steelers has been a huge success. Leading the Steelers to two Super Bowls.  Roethisberger’s life off of the field over the last few years has been more than questionable.

“The commissioner will continue to monitor Roethlisberger’s progress as he begins the next phase of his recommended plan and will meet with Roethlisberger again at the appropriate time,” the league said in a statement late on Thursday.

“There has been no decision on any modification to the length of Roethlisberger’s suspension.”

The commissioner made his decision based on reports and recommendations of NFL medical experts, the league said.

Steelers president Art Rooney said in a statement he welcomed Roethlisberger’s return.

“We look forward to having Ben rejoin his teammates on the practice field,” said Rooney.

Roethlisberger started a foundation with the following mission statement: “The Ben Roethlisberger Foundation seeks to (a): provide support for police and fire departments throughout the U.S. with a particular emphasis on service dogs and (b): to enhance the quality of life for residents of Findlay, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.”

In 2005, Roethlisberger donated one game check to aid the tsunami relief fund.  He has also donated over $100,000 to fund police dogs in Pittsburgh.
